Comparisons of End Times prophecies....

  1. His dad was a minister in 88... who tried to help people see common sense...

What he thought of The Rapture and End Times... as a kid.

He tried to avoid the subject as a youth pastor. Revelation scared him.

Ente Wright wrote Surprised by Hope. Darrell. Johnson wrote a good commentary on Revelation.
Apocolyptic literature... full of crazy images... ppl are represented as animals... and Revelation is still beautiful.

Jesus said in Luke 4 the spirit of the Lord...
    (NIV)Luke 4:18-19
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, [19] to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

He doesn't believe in a rapture.. there can be a commonality among those that believe regardless _....

    (NIV)1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. [14] We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. [15] According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. [16] For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. [17] After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. [18] Therefore encourage each other with these words.

Taking a look @ the above verses...
Those in Thessonica thought that Jesus weren't going to return ....
Paul said because of the ressurection everything changed..
    He was bringing hope.. v18
    (NIV)1 Thessalonians 4:18
Therefore encourage each other with these words.

A background of the verses in the Greek ... about
    Matthew
    (NIV)Matthew 25:6-9
"At midnight the cry rang out: `Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' [7] "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. [8] The foolish ones said to the wise, `Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' [9] " `No,' they replied, `there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'

Do we know what it means?
Culteral idioms .. keep it in context..
It won't be a secret when Jesus returns... we'll be united w Christ ...
He doesn't know when He'll return..
How does the event effect us now?
    John
    (NIV)John 14:1-3

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. [2] In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

    What does it mean?
In context to a Jewish wedding...
    The engagement...
The men meet w the father... agree w a price... then meet w the girl and a glass of wine..
If she accepts the wine then they commit...
    A covenant relationship ...
Then the man goes away to prepare...
Then they wait. And remained faithful to each other...
    God is a jealous God...
During the time of seperation the groom builds a room for them... the bride ... is preparing herself... getting her heart ready...

    Jesus loves a generous heart...

The girl keeps her lamp burning...

    (NIV)John 14:3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Jesus made a new covenant .. w the new cup.
. When we join w our bridegroom we will celebrate

  2. (NIV)Revelation 21:1-4

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. [2] I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. [3] And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. [4] He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
