The story of Samuel's mother...
(NIV)1 Samuel 1:1-28

28: "So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord."
A woman in pain...
In deep anguish: (NIV)1 Samuel 1:5 "But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb."

1 comment:

  1. She was barren... it was terrible for her and her husband... so her husband got another wife...
Back then children could be made into idols b'cuz' having them were so important to their futures .... and worth... and purpose ...

    Hannah is in deep anguish...
    (NIV)1 Samuel 1:6-7
And because the Lord had closed her womb, her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her. [7] This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the Lord, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat.

Is it good to 'live through your children'?
As we love the children do we do the same for our mates?
Serve the person who you said " yes.. I do" to..

If you build your expectations through your children they will crush you...

Idolatry will leave you wanting more...

    (NIV)1 Samuel 1:9
Once when they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on a chair by the doorpost of the Lord's temple.

    (NIV)1 Samuel 1:11
And she made a vow, saying, "O Lord Almighty , if you will only look upon your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head."

Hannah rose... she began w acknowledging God ...
She turns to Him... she takes action and speaks to Him... she rises out of her misery and asked God to look.... she invited Him into her brokeness ... In her suffering she saw God for who He really is... she didn't only make a bargaining vow... she gave God utterly her son.
She turns to God over society...
This is what brought deliverance to her heart ...
Her motives were right... she prayed - got peace... then what she wanted... not what she wanted and peace from that... peace from God ... not from the idols of the day....
